America’s Next Top Model Talk

Makeovers from Cycle 11
The funniest episode of the whole cycle, in my opinion, is the makeover episode. We get to see Tyra’s team take away what makes these girls models. Whether it be cutting long hair short or turning blond hair black, these girls are in for a long day at the salon.
I like to watch the depression set in and internal meltdowns because these “beautiful” ladies now look very different, but still have to model to win. It shows that you don’t have to have ONE look and that YOU CANNOT only have ONE look as a model.
Tyra has this episode for one reason: to show the girls that they need to be able to adapt and still get the job done. The ones that make it past this episode are the ones that will do well. If a model is going to complain and get down on themselves after the makeover episode, they are going to drive themselves out the door when it’s time to vote someone off.
The episode is tonight at 7pm CST, don’t miss it otherwise, SET THE DVR!

Watching the first show of the season is always a bit fun because we get to see the judges just rip apart the poorly dressed and the bad attitudes. Most of the final 13 weren’t really poked at much, but there were a couple of them that needed to “redress” themselves in front of the judges.
One scarf had to be removed and earrings that reminded Tyra of “bracelets” needed to be removed quickly while the models stood there. It always amazed me that none of the models really act out about the comments from the judges. I know that you should most likely listen to the comments, but there are such attitudes on the show already, I figured one would have a word or two in defense. So far, none have.
Looking back on earlier cycles I see that the producers love to pick a couple “staples” to be in the house. You have to have the bad attitude (Sandra), the “weird” one (Allison, London) and, of course, the quite one that sits back and watches (ala McKey from cycle 11). This adds a bit of drama and we know that is a part of reality TV, so the audience just deals with it.
I am not sure the show would be any fun if you didn’t get to see the models that don’t stand out. Would you watch American Idol without the geeks, weirdos and those with shameless plugs? Exactly.
It was nice to see Tyra get a little “listen hear fashion lady that doesn’t know fashion models” on some of the models. I just think that if you REALLY want to be a model, there is some studying involved. It doesn’t always get you to the final show, but it will help you throughout that’s for sure.
Finally I was able to watch my recorded 2 hour premier of America’s Next Top Model. The show is the longest because they take about 30 girls and narrow them down to 13, in the first hour! I was impressed with some of the woman they chose to begin with, but I must remember that each one had “model” properties in some way.
After watching some really “weird” contestants speak their piece and seem to try to get to know the other girls, it was sort of fun watching their dreams get crushed! The first part of the show is always quite easy, but it’s really a way for the judges to narrow the field down, quickly. I simple photo shoot and runway walk, is a pretty good way to get an idea of what you are dealing with.
There were some really nice photos and, of course, some really bad runway walks, but the field was narrowed down to about 20 right after the runway test. The girls were in Vegas and given the name of Greek Goddesses, like the Goddess of Madness, then had to pose portraying said goddess. Most of them did quite good, but you could see the ones not making the effort, right away.
Then you have Sandra, she is from Africa (mentions it 1,000 times) and gets all weird around Angela (from Buffalo). She was eyeballin’ Angela the whole show because she could tell she had some sort of attitude. So when Angela rolled her eyes at Sandra, it was time to get all “lady like”. The argued, cut each other down, pointed fingers and put hands in faces for a good 5 minutes. Jay Alexander broke it up and asked WTF? Just turn away and be a lady, is what he should have said.
I liked to see the drama, but it was over quickly when Angela was sent home. Sandra was my favorite pick because she is so black and has nice facial features, but after the whole fight and “stealing of the bed thing” at the house, I am not sure if I like her attitude. And we all know what happens to the one with the attitude!!
London is sure to start creeping people out with her Jesus rants, but it all adds to the uncommon-ness of the house, besides, the judges think that she is a fake. I think she will take good photos, but I am not sure how well she will do on a runway.
This is just my 2 cents from this week’s show and I am really looking forward to next week because it’s the “Make Over Show”. We, the ones looking from the outside, get to see all the terror in the faces of these models that are due for a makeover. There will be crying and maybe even some blood shed for Allison. Stay tuned and answer this weeks pole.
Welcome to everyone that is here to read my rants and raves about my newest favorite show, America’s Next Top Model. It looks like cycle 12 is about to start, officially March 4th, so make sure that you have your DVR’s set to record, because I am sure this one is going to be just awesome.
Just looking over the promos set up on the ANTM site, I can see that we are going to have some stiff competition, like usual, I just hope the drama doesn’t get to “MTV Trashy”. Last cycle was really fun to watch and I am glad to see the winner, Mckey, actually made it through all the bull by just always sitting in the background of the drama and producing consistently week after week.
This year I haven’t been able to pick a pre-show favorite, so I am going to go over the promo again and post who I think will be my pick to win cycle 12 after I watch the first episode on Wednesday, March 4th. Stay tuned.
